Xiaomi Unveils the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro Featuring Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Xiaomi has wasted no time in adopting Qualcomm’s latest technology with the release of the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro, the first smartphones to house Qualcomm’s newly launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. While these devices are initially exclusive to China, they are expected to make a global debut soon, with the exception of the United States.

The Xiaomi 14 boasts a 6.3-inch screen, while the 14 Pro offers a slightly larger 6.7-inch display, both featuring a remarkable peak brightness of 3,000 nits. Both phones feature LTPO displays with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. The Xiaomi 14 has a flat display with narrow bezels measuring just 1.61mm on three sides.

The 14 Pro’s display area is also flat, but the bezels are uniquely curved around the edges and corners of the panel. Xiaomi has moved away from dramatic curves to provide a flatter design along the back and sides.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro stands out with its variable aperture main camera lens, offering an impressive 1,024 stops between its f/1.4 maximum and f/4.0 minimum apertures. Both the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro feature Leica-branded 50-megapixel main cameras, a 3x telephoto camera, and a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens.

These smartphones come with HyperOS, a new Android-based system developed by Xiaomi. HyperOS aims to enhance cross-device compatibility across mobile, computing, automotive, and home, allowing seamless interaction between devices. The integration of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset enables on-device AI features, such as webpage summarization and videoconference transcript analysis.

Xiaomi’s incorporation of AI foundation models in the 14 and 14 Pro hints at what to expect in AI-driven phone features in 2024. From practical applications to more ambitious projects like AI-generated portraits, Xiaomi is at the forefront of AI innovation.

Xiaomi enthusiasts can now pre-order the Xiaomi 14 starting at CNY 3,999 and the 14 Pro at CNY 4,999. As the year progresses, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is expected to feature in various other devices, promising a bright future for smartphone technology.
